A Day In The Life - Sidekick SLP In The Knoxville Clinic
Here is a day in my life as a Sidekick SLP in the Knoxville Clinic!
I first arrive at the clinic about 15 minutes before I see my first client at 8:30 am. I like to get in my office and get my things situated a few minutes before I start therapy, as I enjoy keeping my room organized. Before I greet my first client, I always log into Cue, (Sidekick's proprietary EMR system) check my alerts, check my email, and print off my schedule for the day. I do this to ensure I plan my day accordingly and keep track of the goals I want to target that day.
Once the clock hits 8:30, I greet my first client in the lobby and start my day seeing my clients. Some days are more busy than others depending on cancelations, but I usually stay pretty busy. When I am not seeing clients, I am cleaning materials, prepping new materials, doing any paperwork I need to catch up on, or collaborating with the other therapists in the office about new therapy ideas or activities. Before I know it, it is lunchtime. I enjoy this time to relax a bit and chat with my coworkers.
After lunch, my schedule is always busy until 5:00. I usually have 2-3 clients after lunch before the afterschool rush begins. This occurs right around 3:00. It is always busy with kiddos and parents/caretakers in the lobby, but I love it!
This time in the clinic has allowed me to grow relationships with other clients and families that I do not see. I enjoy seeing these families' smiling faces and seeing the relationships that they have all built with each other. My after-school schedule always goes by so fast, and soon it is 5:00, time for me to go home!
I always clean up my materials and room, shred my schedule from that day, and take one more look at Cue/emails to be sure there is nothing more that needs to be done before I go home. I do this so that I do not have to continue my workday once I get home. Working in the clinic is much less predictable than the schools due to cancelations and no-shows, but I enjoy my time there with awesome coworkers and clients!
