Can AI really help me plan my sessions?

As speech-language pathologists, we can all feel stretched thin and overwhelmed with the never-ending list of things that need to get done. We actively look for ways to spend less time on paperwork and lesson prep and more time with our clients and students. But will AI (artificial intelligence) be able to help us with that?

I went to Ambiki.com and used "Kiki Creates" to see what AI would come up with for my preschool groups.

I entered the following prompt: Create 10 fall themed language building activities for a preschool-aged student.

Below are the results that AI came up with....what are your thoughts?

Result

1. Fall Vocabulary Bingo: Create a bingo board with fall-themed pictures or words (e.g., pumpkin, leaf, scarecrow). Call out the words and have the child cover the corresponding pictures on their board.

2. Fall Storytime: Read a fall-themed book together and discuss the story. Ask comprehension questions, encourage the child to retell the story in their own words, or have them generate a new ending.

3. Fall Scavenger Hunt: Take a walk outside and help the child find fall objects such as leaves, acorns, and pinecones. Encourage them to describe each item they find using adjectives like color, shape, and size.

4. Leaf Sorting: Collect different types of leaves and have the child sort them based on attributes like color, size, or shape. This activity helps reinforce vocabulary and categorization skills.

5. Sensory Descriptions: Set up a sensory bin with fall-themed items like dried corn, cinnamon sticks, or mini gourds. Encourage the child to touch, smell, and describe each item using descriptive words.

6. Fall Memory Game: Create a matching game by printing or drawing fall pictures and their corresponding word labels. Lay them face down and take turns flipping them over to find matches. Encourage the child to use the words in a sentence during gameplay.

7. Fall Rhyme Time: Choose fall-themed word families (e.g., bat, cat, hat, sat) and have the child generate rhyming words for each one. This activity helps develop phonological awareness and vocabulary.

8. Fall Puzzles: Create or find fall-themed puzzles for the child to put together. As they complete each puzzle, have them describe the picture or answer questions related to the image.

9. Pumpkin Patch Descriptions: Show the child different pictures of pumpkins and ask them to describe each one using adjectives. Have them compare and contrast the pumpkins based on size, color, and texture.

10. Fall Charades: Write or draw fall-related actions on index cards (e.g., raking leaves, carving a pumpkin) and have the child act them out without speaking.

Encourage the child to describe the action they are performing using descriptive words.
